Here are a few things to keep in mind when preparing for your session:
What do I wear?
-I always say to bring your favorite go-to clothes that best represent you professionally.
-Keep it simple. Plain colors, black, gray, blue, or white tops always look great. We want to keep the focus on your expression.
-Jewelry can be hit or miss - sometimes it's fine, other times it can be distracting. Usually we'll see how it looks with and without and make the call from there. Ultimately, it's up to you!
What about makeup?
-It's important to get your skin looking healthy before the shoot, I'd recommend putting on a good moisturizer before coming in.
-Try to keep the makeup looking as natural as possible. Too much makeup just won't look good under the bright lights, so it's best not to worry about getting fancy with anything you wouldn't do on a daily basis.
-Come in with light, natural-looking makeup already done by someone else or by yourself, and we can always add makeup during the session.
-Also, keep in mind that any blemishes that pop up on the day can be easily retouched in photoshop.
How and when are the images delivered?
-All images are delivered digitally via e-mail or download from Chris's smugmug website within a few business days (more details here). If interested, you will also be able to order prints at reasonable prices from your private smugmug gallery.
Why do I shoot horizontally?
I prefer the horizontal headshot for a couple of reasons. Our eyes see horizontally first, and it brings the focus in on the face far better than a vertical composition. Ultimately, the choice between horizontal and vertical photos is up to you. Many of the top professionals in the industry have been shooting horizontally for years. The horizontal headshot isn't great for all situations, however - when wearing a suit or v-neck, vertical photos tend to look better.
